Trudi Benjamin

Trudi Benjamin Moves on to New Pastures.

A few days ago, our directors Trudi and Pat Bejamin stepped down from their roles within JB Campaign Ltd and moved on to new pastures. The campaign would like to take a moment to thank Trudi and Pat and remark upon some of the active campaigner work that Trudi undertook during her time with us.

Trudi has been a campaigner for Jeremy Bamber since 2010 while living in Canada, and upon moving back to the UK Trudi became more actively involved with Jeremy’s campaign and joined the team working informally. During 2015 the campaign founder, Sarah Hanover, was hoping the team could generate donations and sought a more formal way to do this by using a Ltd company. Trudi and Pat offered to set up this company and it proved arduous from the outset with difficulties setting up a bank account, meeting resistance from banks because of the nature of the organization. There was also the issue of using Jeremy’s name when in prison he can’t formally give permission to use it. Trudi actively overcame all of the obstacles to set up the company and JB Campaign Ltd was formed.

Prior to Trudi’s directorship and after, she worked on Jeremy’s social media platforms and became spokesperson for the campaign, appearing on a number of radio stations and in media interviews. There were no tasks that Trudi wasn’t willing to try, to get the word of Jeremy’s innocence out there. During the past 5 years Trudi took Jeremy’s disclosure issues to Liberty and spoke emphatically to their AGM, and also appeared as a speaker at United Against Injustice in Liverpool a number of times. Trudi was involved in meetings on disclosure for those maintaining innocence with the Centre for Criminal Appeals in London. She travelled extensively, at her own expense to help Jeremy by interviewing people involved in his case for a vlog and also spoke at the Cardiff Law school innocence project.

She formed alliances with other organizations and campaigners and brought in patrons to the organization. All of this work was done whilst Trudi completed a law degree and gaining a first class LLB during 2019. Trudi has gone on to pursue a master’s degree in law whilst working as a volunteer in youth offending, and at the same time caring for a large family. She has even battled the tabloid press on her front doorstep and has shown spirit, strength and resilience through all of it. It has been 5 years of hard work for Trudi supported by our team, and it’s now time for her to move on and pursue other avenues including an academic path with a thesis as part of her master’s degree.

We all want to say thanks to Trudi for all of her work, and Jeremy especially would like to say how much he appreciates all that she has done for him in the past 5 years and before the Ltd company. We will move forward with Trudi’s legacy and take Jeremy to freedom with the framework that she built. Thank you, Trudi, and all the very best with your studies and every path you tread in the future.

Jeremy & The team at JBIC.
